Founded in 1932 The London Clinic are a charitable hospital with only the best patient care in mind. They strive to provide world-class medical expertise; combining knowledge and technology with integrity and compassionate care. The London Clinic is one of the UK’s largest private hospitals.
And as the UK’s largest independent hospital with high profile patients and world-leading consultants, they’re often in the spotlight. Therefore, when selecting which AV integrator to partner with they were looking for a vendor who could prove their experience in the field with a history of successful projects, client testimonials and ongoing service with technical support.
The London Clinic needed an AV integrator to design a bespoke cost-effective solution with high-quality, cutting-edge technology and the capacity for future proofing. The unparalleled consultation, system design and proven experience of AV Connections were all winning factors in being selected for the project.
To deliver a refresh of their technology infrastructure to maximise advancements in technology and offer the latest services available to their staff and clients.
As part of this refresh, the current boardrooms at Devonshire Place required modernising, to allow consultants to engage globally with both leading experts and front-line medical staff, to obtain and share information in a concise and efficient way.
Many of the challenges faced were of a standard nature. In particular, the acoustics, image quality and the fact that we were working in a Grade II listed building, and thus had to be extremely sympathetic to the environment.
The primary challenge however was to enable multiple content to be shared consecutively with external participants whilst in a video call. This had to also allow for them to be able to analyse the content at high enough resolutions to scrutinise extremely fine detail.
With traditional Video Conference systems, sharing content is restricted to only one input at a time.
Within the scope of phase 1 the two boardrooms both had existing equipment installed that needed decommissioning and removing from the boardrooms prior to installation.
The new system that AV Connections designed was around the principle of Audio-Visual over IP (AVoIP) allowing a virtual matrix of input sources to be routed to output displays. This ensured future proofing for additional inputs and outputs to be added to the system without the limitation of physical matrix space being available.
Each boardroom was designed with the following inputs:
Outputs:
Video Wall processing achieves the ability to display and share multiple content feeds. This can be done in various formats set to pre-sets in the processor for recall via the intuitive solution control system.
Audio reinforcement was provided through 100v ceiling speakers within each boardroom and each boardroom was also equipped with AVB beamforming microphones.
The system is monitored by a remote management system (RMS) further supporting the system, allowing remote monitoring of assets (Health Checking), asset utilisation monitoring and technical diagnostic support tools.
In line with The London Clinics current video conferencing (VC) software of choice, the rooms were equipped with Cisco WebEx room codecs, UHD cameras and AEC audio input.
The user interface is provided on an iPad providing wireless Crestron control of each room. The graphical user interface is presented following standard industry UX design, simplifying the control and familiar user menu navigation as experienced with a user’s smart phone.
In addition, a wireless delegate microphone system was supplied into boardroom 1.
Successful testing and commissioning with the client and the boardrooms are transformed with high-end AV technology.
AV Connections provided the ability to not only view multiple content in the rooms but share multiple content at the far end in a video call whilst live manipulating the content layout for both environments.
This was achieved using videowall processing. A bespoke system design for the life critical need of high-level medical consultants. By incorporating industry leading manufacturers like Cisco, Crestron, tvOne and Biamp, it’s a reliable and robust solution, delivering superior quality with every use.
